On-line Dating Scam
With so many scams and frauds out there, it is hard to know what is truth and what is not. This is an example of one online dating scam to be on the lookout for so you don’t become their next victim. In this example, the scammers will appear to be interested in you romantically, even stay in touch with you for several months, and may even meet up with you once or twice in person. This is unusual for a scammer to meet you in person, so this makes the relationship seem legitimate and doesn’t appear as a scam. The goal of the scammer is to convince you they care about you and want to help you. They earn your trust and you may share personal details with them, even share your money struggles, this is what they are looking for in this particular type of scam. Once you share your struggles with them, they will offer to loan you money to help you out. They will ask for your bank account numbers or online account log in information, so they can send you money to your account, this is a clear red flag. Rather than sending you money, they are using this information to access your bank account and take all of your money out of your accounts. No individual needs your bank account information to give you money. If they are kind enough to help you out, they should write you a check or give you cash for assistance. If you have any doubt about whether you are being scammed or not, do some research. If it doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t.
